Gerina started playing golf at the age of she turned 15 years old. Gerina graduated from high school in Goddard High School. When she was a student in high school she won the New Mexico Golf State Tournament. She was also an athlete in volleyball who played at the state level. She went to an institution called the University of Texas in 2003. Her senior year was a success. she took home the top prize in every single tournament that she took part in. During undergraduate studies, she earned the titles that included Conference USA Female Athlete and Conference USA Individual Player of the Year.
